Hormones

There are hundreds of hormones in the body. Hormones are messages between organs and cells with instructions on how to function. Abnormalities in hormones result in alteration in function and symptoms, such as fatigue, weight change, sleep issues, menstrual problems, poor memory and mood disorders.

Family Functional Medicine looks at laboratory levels of hormones and hormone balance. Thyroid, insulin and cortisol are examples of some of the hormones that are frequently addressed. Hormones can be brought into balance with the use of nutrients, herbs and prescriptions. Bio identical hormones may be prescribed.

DetoxificationWe are exposed to thousand of toxins every day. Some are made by our body’s normal functions. Most toxins are from our environment, the foods we eat, the air we breathe and the products we use. Detoxification is the complex system our body uses to remove toxins. However, this system can be overburdened by the amount of toxins or by illness. Genetics and nutrition are factors in an individual’s ability to remove toxins. Family Functional Medicine evaluates these factors and develops a customized detoxification plan. This is often the first step to wellness.

Immune System

Healing from an injury, fighting infections, and preventing cancer growth are some of the many functions of our complex immune system. Like a well-orchestrated military operation, our immune system has several branches. One branch looks for invaders while another goes to battle against those intruders. Another important branch cleans up old cells and debris. When all the parts to the immune system are not doing their job, diseases can result such as allergies, autoimmunity, inflammation and cancer.

Family Functional Medicine strives to balance the immune system and treat the underlying cause of immune imbalance.

How We Work

Evaluation

Expect a lengthy initial visit, compared to conventional practices. Your provider will gather a thorough understanding of your health history, goals, and symptoms.

Testing

We are science and data driven. It is not uncommon to suggest testing to gain deeper insight into your current health condition.

Wellness Plan

We will develop an individualized treatment approach involving actions, considerations, supplements, and possible follow-up visits.

Follow-up

We are present to track progress and address health concerns. While we recommend retaining your primary care physician, we remain present and on your team.

We do not accept or file insurance. Costs are discussed up front.
